Khalti Lake Khalti Lake, located in Ghazar District in the western part of Gilgit-Baltistan, is located at a distance of 120 km from Gilgit city. Spread over 98 acres, the lake is 80 feet deep. Located at 7274 feet above sea level, Khalti Lake is 1510 feet wide and 7723 feet long. According to the locals, 32 years ago today, after the catastrophic floods of 1989, the flow of the river Ghazir stopped at this place for many days. And 60 houses in Khalti village were flooded. A few days later, the present Khalti Lake, which still exists, came into existence on the low-lying area. Khalti Lake is home to trout fish. Thousands of domestic and foreign tourists come here in summer to see the lake and catch fish. In winter, the upper part of the lake freezes completely and the flow of the river Ghazar is maintained under this icy roof. In the freezing cold, tourists flock to Khalti Lake. From December to March, people enjoy playing sports on this natural ice ground.
